Ayurvedic Beauty: Golden Rose Face Mask

The wisdom of Ayurveda has a lot to offer us in regards to beauty care and skin nourishment. Not surprisingly, it draws on the benefits found in natural ingredients most of us will find in our pantries.

A few staples mixed together and in 10 minutes your skin will feel refreshed, radiant and bright. Chickpea flour gently exfoliates dead skin cells while rose water helps to tone the skin, controls excess oil and heals scars and wounds. Oats are incredibly soothing to eczema or acne-prone skin and turmeric leaves skin feeling nourished and glowy (promise it won’t leave you with a yellow tinge!).

This makes enough for one mask, but you could multiply the recipe and store in a glass jar in the fridge for a weekly treatment.

You’ll need

1 tablespoon chickpea (besan) flour

1 teaspoon oats, ground into rough powder (use a coffee/spice grinder or blender)

¼ teaspoon turmeric powder

1-2 tablespoons pure rose water (or enough until you have a thick paste)

How to

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl until a paste forms.

  2. Cleanse face as normal.

  3. Apply mask, gently massaging in for an exfoliating effect.

  4. Leave on for 10 minutes then gently remove using a warm flannel cloth.

  5. Follow with your favourite face oil or moisturiser.

Note: for dry skin, replace the rose water with milk.
